SPRINGFIELD (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County Sheriff’s sergeant will return to duty today after a routine review by the department’s office of professional standards.
The panel was of the opinion that Sgt. Chris Bacik followed proper procedure when he shot an armed robbery suspect last week.
Bacik chased the suspect to his home in Springfield. Derrick Shirk, 50, ran into his garage and came back out with what appeared to be a gun.
Bacik gave several warnings then opened fire, hitting Shirk twice.
Shirk’s wounds were non-life threatening. His gun was an airsoft replica.
