HOLLAND (WHTC) — A room at Grand Haven’s Loutit District Library is reserved Wednesday for a town hall on disabilities.
Rodney Craig, executive director of the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council, said he wants to hear from people with disabilities, their family members and advocates.
The MSILC is responsible for writing a state-wide independent-living plan; Craig said he’s looking for new ideas.
MSILC partnered with Disability Network Lakeshore and Disability Network West Michigan to host Wednesday’s town hall-style listening tour.
Craig said previous state plans have focused on resources and needs. For the next version of the plan, MSILC members want to add ideas from people living with disabilities — from what they’d like in more-accessible website design to identifying issues with transportation, building access and other hurdles faced on a daily basis.
Craig said the listening tours help incorporate more of the consumers wishes and ideas into the state plan.
The town hall is set for 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Loutit District Library, 407 Columbus Ave., Grand Haven.
