LANSING (WKZO-AM) — State Sen. Margaret O’Brien, R-Portage, says a $30 million piece of legislation for immediate water bill help for Flint residents affected by lead-poisoned tap water could have been much larger.
The money was approved for the partial reimbursement for water, but not sewer services.
O’Brien says there were discussions spearheaded by Sen. Jim Ananich, D-Flint, about swelling the bill to $60 million.
O’Brien says, though she supported the amendment, it was doomed by urgency.
“The governor called for an additional $30 million and we needed to get that out the door now,” O’Brien said.
O’Brien says discussions will continue at a later date about a possible full credit.
