FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – A Fremont, Indiana man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused by police of walking into a basketball game last Saturday night while he was in possession of a holstered and loaded handgun.
22-year-old Joshua Needham is facing a level 6 felony charge of possession of a firearm on school property.
Fremont Police Department Public Information Officer Jordan Trippe says they were working security at Fremont High School for the varsity basketball game between Steuben County rivals Fremont and Angola. During the game, police say Needham walked into the school building with a firearm.
An officer spotted the weapon and security was able to quickly escort Needham out of the building without incident. Police say he co-operated with officers as he was being led out.
A search warrant was served on Needham at his residence where he was taken into custody without incident.
Needham’s Facebook page indicates he works as a security officer for a northeast Indiana security company.
Fremont Police want to remind everyone that it is against the law in Indiana to possess a firearm on school property, unless the firearm is secured, out of sight and in your vehicle.
