KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo man with a criminal record as allegedly been the prime suspect since 88-year-old Alfred Minka was beaten to death in his home on Kalamazoo’s east side three years ago this month.
Todd Maneke, 43, has now reportedly been arrested for the crime.
Captain Victor Ledbetter said they have only ever had one suspect for the killing. He says it took them good old fashioned detective work and they finally got test results back from a piece of evidence that had initially been overlooked and decided they finally had enough to make a case.
Ledbetter refused to identify the suspect, but Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting has confirmed that their suspect is Maneke.
He will be formally charged sometime Tuesday with open murder.
The suspect lived across the street on Brookmont Drive from Minka and had reportedly borrowed money from the elderly man that he had not paid back.
