LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The swine flu is back in Michigan.
State Health and Agriculture department officials jointly announced on Friday that there have been eight confirmed cases of influenza A variant viruses reported in Michigan. The unnamed victims tested positive for the H3N2v strain, with one needing hospitalization. All of the persons involved had exposure to pigs at county fairs in Muskegon, Cass and Ingham counties during the past six weeks where ailing animals were identified.
In a joint statement, the two agencies are working “closely” with local health departments, the health care community and fairs to identify any additional cases and to protect exhibitors and the public. These are the first documented cases of this variant of the swine flu in Michigan since two were spotted in 2013, with six such victims the year previous.
