KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Tension and violence erupted in a Kalamazoo courtroom as 53-year-old Bruce Embry was sentenced for the shooting death of Loy Norrix High School senior Temetrion Hegler, his step-grandson.
The teen was shot in the Lane Boulevard home they shared on Jan. 8.
During victim impact statements, Willie Warren, a relative of the dead 17-year-old, rushed at Embry but was tackled and subdued by Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies. Embry was rushed out of the courtroom.
The victim’s mother also had to be restrained and escorted from the courtroom when the two families began exchanging angry words.
Embry, who is an ex-con and a registered sex offender, was given life in prison without parole.
