MUSKEGON (WKZO-AM) — Michigan Health officials say a pig at the Muskegon County Fair late last month was apparently the source of the swine flu virus that infected two swine exhibitors at the fair.
They are reaching out to other swine exhibitors who were at the fair to determine if any of them also became ill.
There is no vaccine for the H3N2 variant, but it can be treated with other anti-viral drugs if caught early.
State Health officials are working with staff from the Agricultural and Rural Development Department and the Muskegon Health Department to track the disease.
Victims suffer symptoms like any seasonal flu, and like other strains, the very young, seniors and people with chronic diseases are susceptible to complications.
