LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Four Saugatuck students spent the day with Rep Mary Whiteford at the capital yesterday in Lansing.
The students Kara Hawke, Abby Borland, Alex Kruithof and Michael Gale spent a trimester working to increase awareness about human trafficking. April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Whiteford says the average age of kids who are victims of trafficking are between the ages of 12 and 14 years of age, so why not a student to raise awareness as the community listens to students.
The students spent time with Rep. Whiteford, testified before a Senate committee, and attended a bill signing for legislation that would post the number for a human trafficking hotline in conspicuous places, like bus and rail stations and rest stops.
