DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Detroit Public Schools is facing a teaching crisis. Three months into the school year and the district is facing a teacher shortage as an unprecedented number of educators have retired or resigned. D-P-S officials say that earlier this month, there were at least 170 teaching vacancies.
It’s believed that a spike in health care costs, stagnant pay and heightened uncertainty about the future have resulted in the shortage.
