LANSING (WKZO) –The American Civil Liberties Union is taking the Secretary of State to federal court for refusing to change the gender heading on driver’s licenses for 6 transgendered clients without amended birth certificates.
In order to get a birth certificate amended, the drivers would have to provide proof of surgery.
The ACLU claims that most Transgendered Americans don’t want surgery.
The ACLU claims what the state is doing is Unconstitutional.
When asked about it Secretary of State Ruth Johnson declined to comment, but her staff says they are just following the letter of the current state law.
