KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The EPA revealed their preferred plan for cleaning PCB’s out of the Kalamazoo River as it flows from the Morrow Dam, through downtown Kalamazoo, out to Parchment and then north to Plainwell.
They have already begun a 30-day comment period to get public input on the project.
Their options ranged from doing nothing to spending over 300 million to scrape out all 20-miles of river, and rebuilding it from scratch.
The option they selected will clean out the hot spots where testing has revealed there are concentrations of the contaminant.
At a forum at the Kalamazoo Nature Center Tuesday evening, they also submitted a 6.8-million dollar plan for addressing priority flood plains north of Kalamazoo.
The EPA is accepting Public Comments through June 3rd.
Spokesman Francisco Arcaute says you can fax them, E-mail them or snail-mail them. http://www.epa.gov/region5/cleanup/kalproject
