LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The Michigan Chamber of Commerce began a statewide campaign to discourage voters from signing anti-hydraulic fracturing ballot petitions. The group “Let’s Ban Fracking” has started another effort to put the matter on the ballot next year, looking to get at least 340 thousand signatures, after a similar initiative failed to gain enough valid signatures for the 2014 election. Fracking is seen as a way to get to oil and natural gas reserves; opponents cite possible environmental hazards with the method.
