BLOOMINGDALE (WKZO) — One teen was seriously injured and four were hospitalized after a Van Buren County squad car struck a Honda in Bloomingdale as the deputy was speeding to an emergency call.
Lt. Dale Hintz says the squad car and the Honda were both westbound on W. Kalamazoo Street Saturday evening when the Deputy, his lights and sirens on, tried to pass the Honda just as the female driver was attempting to turn left into a driveway.
The two collided.
A 16-year-old in the back seat of the Honda was airlifted to Bronson.
The 37-year-old driver of the Honda and a 17 police intern was taken by ambulance to Bronson for treatment of minor injuries.
The Deputy was treated for minor injuries at South Haven Community Hospital.
State Police are investigating.
