KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Its official, Kalamazoo’s twin Transit Authorities have approved a plan to put a millage request on the August ballot to fund continuing operations.
They will be asking for .75 mils which is an increase, but Chair Linda Teeter says they would only assess the extra amount if they used it to expand service.
Only those parts of the Metro area receiving the line-haul service will vote on this millage and be expected to pay it.
Teeter says a second millage to support out-county transit service will be sought once they know whether voters go for Proposition One in May. If they say yes, then the authority will need less local millage to fund that service.
Teeter says voters have always been very supportive when it comes to the city busses because they know the vital service it provides.
