KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Four students at Loy Norrix High School have been arrested for possession of the same handgun after it was fired inside a bathroom at the School on Kilgore and Lovers Lane at about 8:45 Tuesday morning.
Lt. Stacy Geik says the discharge of the gun was accidental and no one was injured.
The gun was then passed from student to student over the next few hours in an attempt to keep it from being discovered.
Once the School Resource Officer learned of the gun discharge, he called for back-up and other officers joined in the investigation.
Eventually they were able to track all of the students who had the gun, and recover it from the backpack of a student who was in lock-down in a classroom.
Three boys and one girl, all 10th graders were taken into custody and lodged in the Count Juvenile Home on gun possession counts.
The small caliber semi-automatic is being held as evidence.
The students will also face sanctions from the district that would likely include expulsion as a possibility. Spokesman Alex Lee says each will get a due process hearing before any determination is made on district sanctions.
