SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) — A mother and son from Van Buren County have been given 7 to 15 years in prison for a really horrible case of first degree child abuse.
Randy and Peggy Hamilton would strap his 11 year old son to the floor for hours at a time, deny him food and torture him in other ways. The abuse reportedly went on for years, and as a result the youngster is currently undergoing therapy.
The boy’s plight was discovered when he managed to escape and was found emaciated, cold and shivering in a ditch along side a Van Buren County road, and terrified by the prospect of being returned to his home.
The pair pled guilty to first degree child abuse. In exchange the boy was not required to testify and other charges were dropped.
