WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) — Congress will go back to work this week facing another deadline Friday to approve a Homeland Security Budget.
Failure would mean a massive furlough of employees in that Department. Border Patrol, Coast Guard and TSA Employees would be expected to report to work without pay.
It impacts a border state like Michigan more than others, especially when you consider we not only have the busiest trade crossing in the U.S. in Detroit, but we also have Coast Guard Stations, international airports and shipping ports.
Retired Michigan National Guard Gen. Mike McDaniel,who was an assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Security says given the current state of the war on Terrorism, this isn’t a good time to be playing politics with the Homeland Security budget.
He thinks layoffs and missed paychecks with result in less vigilance and more morale problems.
