(KALAMAZOO) (WKZO) — Kalamazoo’s Fire Marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that gutted the small one story home at 1625 Homecrest late Saturday afternoon and sent one of its two occupants to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
The fire apparently began in the basement of the home, which is located just north of Maple St. Magnet School.
Public Safety Officers initially entered the home to attack the flames but were forced outside by the intensity of the fire and the structural damage it was causing.
They were eventually able to douse the flames but not before the home’s interior was destroyed.
The victim was initially listed in serious but stable condition at Bronson Hospital.
