LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Senate has the outline of a Michigan road repair tax plan which will be discussed during sessions today and tomorrow. The plan includes a 15% hike in the gas tax that would be phased in over three years, which was originally proposed by a Democrat, combined with a drop in the income tax rate from 4.25% to 3.9%. That was included to entice Republican support. It would also call for $500 million in fund shifting from other programs to roads.
Senators are expected to work through tomorrow before the Independence Day holiday extended weekend.
