DEARBORN (WKZO) — Fiat Chrysler will pay a record 105-million-dollar fine for recall lapses that cover millions of vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration will formally announce the penalty today, saying the company admitted to failing to properly execute 23 recalls covering eleven-million vehicles.
As part of a settlement, the automaker will reportedly agree to repurchase a half-million Dodge Rams with steering problems.
The report says the recall lapses also include some older Jeep models that had rear gas tanks that could rupture and catch fire.
