LANSING (WKZO) — An Epic-MRA poll taken since the Supreme Court’s decision on Same Sex marriage shows that most Michigan voters think the Justices got it right.
56% approve of lifting the state’s ban on gay marriage. 39% oppose it and about 5% told the surveyors that they had no opinion.
A separate poll conducted by Public Policy Polling shows similar results with 56% strongly supporting legislation that would protect the rights of gays to jobs and housing.
The pollsters say both Democrat and Republican majorities supported the proposition even though more Republicans drew the line at gay marriage.
Legislation proposed to change the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act remains stalled in both houses.
When asked if they would support a proposal by Rep. Todd Courser to require a member of the clergy to sign off on all marriage licenses, only 16% supported in but 69% opposed it.
