SCHOOLCRAFT (WKZO) — Schoolcraft Police say a five car pile up at the railroad tracks at the south end of the Village, blocked the northbound lane of U.S. 131 for three hours overnight.
Chief Bryan Campbell says it appears a young adult fell asleep at the wheel, striking the car at the rear of a line of cars waiting for a freight train to clear the crossing just before 11 p.m.
The force of the impact pushed the vehicles in line together, damaging five of them.
The 25-year-old driver who caused the wreck, was not injured but the driver and a passenger of the first car he struck had to be pried out of the wreckage of their car. They were both taken to Bronson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A third person was also transported to Bronson Emergency, treated and released.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor but tests are being run.
Charges or a citation may still be issued to the at-fault driver.
