ANN ARBOR (WKZO) — An Internet advertisement showing a tongue in leather and chains for Domino’s Pizza is an authentic ad for the pizza chain, but was not authorized by the Ann Arbor-based company.
Spokesman Tim McIntyre tells the “Detroit Free Press” that the ad was created by an agency for a franchisee in Tel Aviv, Israel, where the franchisee’s marketing manager rejected it. According to the “Free Press,” it was apparently created by the global advertising firm McCann-Erickson.
McIntyre said he thought when he first saw the ad that it was connected to “50 Shades of Grey” and was “clever and silly,” but also something the pizza chain was not happy about being leaked. He adds it was “ill-advised and inappropriate” and “shocking for shocking sake.”
