ANN ARBOR (WKZO) — University of Michigan poet and professor Lorna Goodison is the 2015 winner of the Shirley Verrett Award.
The award is presented each year by the university’s Women of Color in the Academy Project. It honors female students or faculty members from diverse cultural backgrounds who make honorable contributions to the arts.
Goodison is an internationally-acclaimed author of 12 award-winning books of poetry, three books of short stories and a prize-winning memoir, “From Harvey River: A Memoir of My Mother and her Island.”
