GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) — Body cameras are coming to the Grand Rapids Police Department.
The city commission has approved buying roughly a dozen cameras to start with, but City Manager Greg Sundstrom says they have to wait in line behind other police departments. He notes there are only three companies that make the devices and the Los Angeles Police Department has just put in a “very large order.”
Protocols on how the cameras will be used are due to be completed by March 10th, including how the data is managed, who will have access to the data, and privacy protection for residents. Sundstrom is hopeful the cameras will be in use by the end of the year.
