DETROIT (WKZO) — Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica, are thanking Detroit Tigers fans and team owner Mike Illitch in a very public way.
The couple purchased a full-page ad in the “Detroit Free Press” and on the newspaper’s website, in which Scherzer called it “a privilege and an honor to don the Old English D.” The 2013 Cy Young Award winner signed a seven-year contract with Washington last week for 210-million dollars after turning down a multi-year extension with Detroit last spring.
Scherzer was traded to Detroit in 2009 from Arizona.
