KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo Schools Supt. Michael Rice says Milwood Elementary will be the next school to get a major overhaul.
The northern wing built in 1921, will be demolished and replaced and the newer southern portion will be heavily remodeled.
It will be outfitted with new doors and lockers, retrofitted for technology and given a new roof.
Dr. Rice says demolition will begin this summer and reconstruction should be completed by the fall of 2016, total price tag $4.5-million.
He says it will be an entirely new learning space when the work is done.
Students and staff will spend the next school year at the former Christian Elementary Site on South Westnedge, while construction is underway.
Milwood Elementary is located on Lover’s Lane near the Milwood Baseball Complex at Portage and Cork Street.
