GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) — For the third time someone has tried to rob Medawar Jewelers on Plainfield Ave. in Grand Rapids, and for the third time, most of them have been captured.
The suspects entered the store early Friday afternoon and tried to smash their way into the Rolex watch display.
Police say an employee pulled a gun and took a shot at the robbers, who fled.
They took off in a large black pickup, which they exchanged for a Black Impala and a Silver Durango about a mile away.
Police set up on I-96, knowing that would likely be their escape route.
They found three in the Impala following a “Felony Stop”. That involves the deployment of a large number of cars and officers to insure compliance by suspects. One or two additional suspects remain at large. Police are still looking for that silver Durango.
