CINCINNATI (WKZO) — The decision on whether former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should get a new trial on corruption charges is in the hands of a three judge appeals court panel.
Attorneys for the former mayor and co-defendant Bobby Ferguson made their arguments to the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati Tuesday. The claims include a conflict of interest for Kilpatrick’s trial attorney and an error in allowing text messages to be read into evidence.
Government lawyers contended that none of the issues is serious enough to start the case over.
