KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Voters in the metro Kalamazoo area will have two transportation funding decisions to make this year.
Everyone will vote on the statewide road funding measure in May. In August, the County bus authority has proposed asking for .75 mils to fund line-haul bus service in Kalamazoo, Portage and the metro townships.
Transportation Director Sean McBride says even with a slight increase, Kalamazoo would be far below what comparable systems in other similar Michigan towns currently receive through local taxes.
He says the goal is expand service, add Sunday routes, extra hours at night and more frequency on
Last night’s presentation was during the Portage City Council meeting.
They plan 5 more presentations around the county before deciding whether to put the funding request on the August ballot.
