KALAMAZOO (WKZO)– It looks like the parents and students from El Sol Elementary will get the special program they have wanted for sometime, to allow the students to continue their dual-language education as they move on to Middle School.
Several parents and students addressed the School Board Thursday night, saying that after spending five years in the Immersive language program at the Magnet Elementary and learning fluent Spanish, they did not want to fall out of practice and lose the language.
Last night they lobbied the board to approve a daily exposure to the Spanish language once they move on to Maple Street Middle School.
Supt. Michael Rice, a former French Teacher had good news for the group.
He says until now they didn’t have the numbers or the students with sufficient fluency to justify such a program, but now they do. It will start this fall.
