LANSING (WKZO) — A new report finds that the more classes a high school student takes on-line the less successful they are academically. It is particularly troubling because 38-percent more students in the state participated in virtual learning in 2013 than in 2012, and last year’s figure is expected to rise even more.
According to the report released Wednesday by the Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute, only 42-percent of kids taking three online classes passed all of the classes and an even smaller 24-percent passed all classes when they took six of them on line. There’s concern that parents and teachers are pushing kids to take on-line classes when they’re struggling too much in the classroom, but that the results are the opposite of what’s desired.
