WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON (WKZO) — Thousands turned out in Wenatchee, Washington to honor three U.S. Forest Service firefighters who died during the fight to stop a fire along the Twisp River earlier this month.
Among the killed, South Haven Native Richard Wheeler, a GVSU Graduate and fourth generation firefighter who moved specifically to that area to battle the raging forest fires that have become endemic in the west.
They are heroes to the people out west who rely on them to protect the national forests and the communities around them.
Hundreds of firefighters traveled from all over the region to attend the memorial.
