Toronto, Ontario Canada (WKZO) – The Tigers continues to struggle in August as the season is winding down, the latest team to beat them: the red hot Toronto Blue Jays. In this series verses the Blue Jays Detroit’s batting average against Toronto: TERRIBLE, Detroit pitching: HORRIBLE, the Tigers was out scored 29-6 and the ERA: DISAPPOINTING. Thru 130 games Detroit’s record: 30-20 in their division, 30-50 verses the rest of the MLB. Detroit is now 20 games behind league leading Kansas City Royals and has now fallen to the cellar in the Central with hopes of making the playoffs all but gone. After Toronto destroyed them Saturday 15-1 led by Edwin Encarncion’s 3 home runs and team tying 9 RBI’s, Detroit looks to avoid the sweep. Bottom 1st Toronto jumps out to a 2-0 lead on home runs by Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarncion. Bottom 2nd, with a runner on Toronto’s Kevin Pillar gets in on the home run derby; a run bomb to left and the Blue Jays are out in front 4-0. Bottom 4 after Troy Tulowitzki doubles over the head of J.D. Martinez, Russell Martin steps up and sent one out to left a 2 run blast and now Toronto is up 6-0. Detroit finally gets on the board: Top 6th when Rajai Davis lead off with a double and advanced to 3rd on a wild throw from 3rd, Miguel Cabrera brought him in on a RBI ground out. Toronto lead is 6-1. Top 7th Detroit gets another run in as James McCann RBI ground out scores Victor Martinez making it 6-2 Blue Jays. But Toronto wasn’t done yet, 3 more runs comes across the plate in the form of a 2 run double by Ryan Goins driving in Russell Martin and Kevin Pillar followed by a RBI single off the bat of Josh Donaldson bringing in Ryan Goins. AND THAT’S YOUR BALLGAME: Toronto 9 Detroit 2. Toronto’s (SP) Mark Buehrle (14-6) get the win: going 6 innings, 1 run, 5 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikes outs, Detroit’s Alfredo Simon (11-9) gets the loss: lasting 5 innings, 6 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strike outs.
