DEARBORN (WKZO)– National energy pollster Trilby Lundberg says some parts of the country have already seen gas prices dip below $2/gallon while the midwest is still coping with the aftermath of a broken refinery in Indiana, but that could be changing fast.
Lundberg says if not for the high cost of a fill-up in the Midwest the national average would be well below their current average of $2.71 per gallon.
AAA of Michigan says the problems at the Whiting, Indiana refinery continue, but shipments from other regions have cut the average price of gas statewide by 16-cents to $2.84/gallon in the last week.
Gasbuddy.com’s Patrick Dehaan doubts that is true.
He says the market believes that the BP refinery at Whiting is working again, and the wholesale market has already reacted. BP has not confirmed that one way or the other publicly.
We can expect pump prices to plunge if that is true. If it turns out not to be true, the market could have the opposite reaction and prices could spike again.
Dehaan says crude oil fell to below $39 a barrel on the commodities market as the Stock Market plunged early Monday morning
. He says that means it should be a great fall if you drive a car, better news if you drive a truck.
He says prices could ultimate slip lower than earlier projections of under $2 per gallon, just as long as the refineries don’t go down again.
