DETROIT (WKZO)– We are sorry to announce the death of Emma Didlake, the nation’s oldest known veteran who spent her life in Detroit.
She raised 5 children and at the age of 38, she joined the Women’s Army Auxillary Corp and served during WW-2.
Just a month ago she was honored at the White House by President Barack Obama, after Kalamazoo’s Talons Out program flew her to Washington, all expenses paid, to tour the memorials and visit the White House.
After the war she joined the civil rights movement, marched with Marin Luther King, knew Rosa Parks and was a member of the NAACP.
