LANSING (WKZO) — Call them the ‘bed bug bills’ and two Kalamazoo Lawmakers are pitching them to become state law.
State Senator Margaret O’Brien and House Rep. Brandt Iden are behind legislation that would ban landlords from renting infested properties.
It also spells out who is responsible if a tenant notifies a landlord that the bed bugs are biting in a rented unit.
It’s the responsibility of the landlord to take measures to end the infestation, but the proposed legislation would stick the person responsible for introducing the bedbugs with the tab for the exterminator’s fee. The same bills have been introduced in both houses.
