LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (WKZO) — Governor Rick Snyder says he isn’t running for President, but he is crossing the country three times this weekend to hang with billionaires and other Republican presidential wannabees.
He says he is touring the country to tell “Michigan’s come-back story”.
He was in Nevada Friday, at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Spring Meeting.
Also at the event were all the other Republican Candidates who were there to woo wealthy donors including and especially billionaire Sheldon Adelson. It’s being held at Adelson’s Venetian Resort and Hotel, and some pundits have dubbed it the “Adelson Primary”.
Snyder was not listed as a speaker at the event.
Saturday night he was in Washington for the White House Correspondents Dinner. He was the guest of Bloomberg News, owned by billionaire Michael Bloomberg.
A PAC owned by the publisher and former Mayor of New York ran ads supporting Snyder’s race for Governor last year.
Snyder wasn’t speaking in Washington either.
Monday, Snyder is finally scheduled to talk about Michigan at the Milken Institute in Santa Monica, California, where the topic will be the Detroit bankruptcy.
A tax-exempt political nonprofit fund called “Making Government Accountable” has been created to finance Snyder’s national travel. Former State Party Chairman Bobby Schostak is raising funds for the 501(c)(4).
The non-profit’s status means that they do not have disclose the names of donors, but political insiders say its real purpose is to avoid having to make all the financial disclosures, fill out all the forms and make all the reports to the Federal Elections Commission that would be required if he were officially a candidate.
That may be one reason he refuses to acknowledge he might be even a little interested in a long-shot run for the White House.
