TEXAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein and Lt. Governor Brian Calley were in Kalamazoo Friday morning at the Groves near the KVCC campus, as part of a statewide tour to promote hiring the disabled.
They have been meeting with groups of businessmen all over the state to tell them why it’s a good idea to hire someone who may be less capable in some ways but more than capable in all the ones that count.
Justice Bernstein says the disabled really appreciate the opportunity and they are going to put out the extra effort to show just how much they appreciate it.
He says some businessmen may fear the special accommodations that have to be made to cater to someone with a disability, but Bernstein says they are usually simple and easy to take care of.
Both Justice Bernstein and Lt. Governor Calley know first hand the challenges involved. Bernstein is blind and the Lt. Governor has a child who is autistic.
They are calling their cross-state campaign the “Hidden Talent Tour”.
