KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — A series of police shootings nationwide have put body cameras on the shopping list of many police agencies in the U.S.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley says he supports the idea of body cameras for officers but he says it may take until early next year before he can equip his staff.
It’s partly a budget issue. He says he also wants to test out some gear first, and solidify the policies for their use.
Taking on cameras will also require editing capacity, data storage and the manpower to organize, screen and edit Freedom of Information Act Requests.
He says they have been testing a number of the cameras for durability and compatibility and will pick one in a couple of months.
