The Detroit Tigers (6-0) were paced by a 4-4 day from Miguel Cabrera, as they defeated the Cleveland Indians (2-4), 8-5 on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Kyle Lobstein racked up his first win of the season by going 5 innings, while allowing three earned runs on eight Indians’ hits.
He got plenty of run support, led by Miguel Cabrera, who went a perfect 4-4 from the plate with four RBI and two home runs.
JD Martinez also had a three hit, three RBI day for the Tigers, who scored at least eight runs in all three games of the weekend series with Cleveland.
The Tigers’ offense boomed out of the gates with a three-run first and three-run second inning, but the offense tapered off in the middle innings, allowing the Indians to gain ground.
Cleveland got it as close as 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a ninth inning JD Martinez solo home run gave the Tigers a three-run lead that wouldn’t be touched.
Joakim Soria came on for the ninth to retire the Indians for his second save of the year.
The Tigers are off to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates tomorrow afternoon, with coverage beginning on AM 590 WKZO at 1:10 p.m.
