KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The Kalamazoo County Board has voted to hire a search firm as they look for a new County Administrator.
The vote came despite a general consensus on the commission that their interim administrators are doing a masterful job of running the day to day operations since the resignation of Peter Battani.
Last night a divided County Board voted 7 to 3 to hire the executive search firm, Gov HR USA, of Northbrook, Illinois to do a national search.
The dissenters either didn’t think they needed to pay for a national search or preferred another search firm.
Commissioner Dale Shugars wanted to hire a Michigan firm.
Once the search consultants begin their work, the process usually takes several months to complete.
Hiring a search firm will permit them to keep the names of the candidates secret until they are down to a few finalists, because the search firm will be doing the screening.
There are a lot of good candidates who simply would not throw their hat in the ring if their current employer knew they were looking around.
