Live Blog: Tigers vs. Red Sox Friday 5/16

11:14pm...Carp grounds out to Castellanos who was shifted over in shallow right field to end the game. Tigers win 1-0 and have now won nine straight road games for the first time since 1984 when they won 17 straight on the road.

11:11pm...Napoli flies out to right for the second out. Carp up.

11:10pm...Ortiz strikes out for the first out of the inning. Napoli up.

11:05pm...Tazawa sets the side down in order. Tigers three outs away from their 9th straight road win. Joe Nathan enters the game. Due up for the Red Sox: Ortiz, Napoli, and Carp

10:58pm...Tigers will face a new pitcher. Junichi Tazawa enters the game for the Red Sox.

10:55pm...Sizemore grounds out to end the 8th. We head to the 9th with tthe Tigers still in the lead 1-0. That one run was scored in the first. Due up for the Tigers: Hunter, Jackson, Avila.

10:54pm...Danny worth bobbles the ball as he tries to get it out of his glove, but is still able to get Pedroia at first. Two down in the 8th.

10:45pm...V-Mart hits a shot right to first as Cabrera gets doubled up. First double play for the Red Sox. Joba entering the game looking to hold onto the Tigers 1-0 lead. Hunter has two hits today.

10:44pm...Cabrera hits one deep off the Green Monster in left field for a long single.

10:43pm...Joba warming up in the Tigers' pen. Will get the ball when the Tigers are done batting in the 8th.

10:42pm...Kinsler, Cabrera, and Martinez due up for the Tigers. Need an insurance run here badly.

10:39pm: Krol gets the job done as AJ grounds into a double-play, the third turned by the Tigers tonight. 1-0 as we head to the 8th.

10:35pm...Reed strikes out Bradley Jr. That's going to be it for Reed, Ian Krol to enter the game to face the lefty AJ Pierzynski who is pinch hitting for Middlebrooks.

10:29pm...Reed throws one up and in on Bogaerts and drills him on the left hand. Red Sox have two on and no outs. Not a good start for Reed.

10:26pm...Reed called for a balk. Carp gets second. Tying runner now in scoring position

10:22pm...Carp get a bloop single to left and that will end the day for Max. Evan Reed will enter the game with one on, no outs in the bottom of the 7th.

10:18pm...Looks like I'm wrong, Max coming out to start the 7th.

10:16pm...Castellanos thrown out attempting to steal second to end the Tigers' 7th. Stretch time. 1-0 Tigers

10:13pm...Badenhop strikes out Worth and gets Davis to pop out and his day is done. Mujica is now pitching for the Red Sox. He'll face Kinsler with a runner on first and two down.

10:07pm...Castellanos singles to start the 7th for Detroit. Worth up, Boston thinks he'll be bunting

10:04pm...Max strikes out Napoli looking to end the Rex Sox threat. Max has seven K's and is at 103 pitches. His night is most likely done. Great outting as he lowers his ERA from 2.04 to 1.83. Him and Lester are tied for the league lead for strikeouts with 73 each.

10:01pm...Intentional walk is the play. Runners on the corners with two down. Napoli to the plate, who has walked twice already today.

9:59pm...4-6-3 double play. Runner on third with Big Papi up. I'd expect an intentional walk here.

9:53pm...Boston with their first real scoring chance after Max walks Dustin Pedroia. Runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs.

9:49pm...David Ross singles to start the 6th for Boston. Just the second hit allowed by Max.

9:46pm...Badenhop sets down the side pretty easily. Mid 6th 1-0 Tigers

9:41pm...Lester done for the day. He allowed just the one ER in the first, seven K's, three BBs, and seven hits. 94 pitches, 54 for strikes. Badenhop now in. Gets Hunter to start the 6th.

9:40pm...Max sets down the side in order. First inning in-which he did not record a strikeout. 1-0 End of 5.

9:35pm...Burke Badenhop is warming up for the Red Sox. Badenhop was part of the Cabrera trade that brought him to Detroit from Florida.

9:31pm...V-Mart flies out to left to end the Tigers' 5th. 1-0 still Mid 5th.

9:28pm...Cabrera strikes out by Davis steals 2nd for his 14th steal of the year and 36 for the Tigers this season. Two outs.

9:22pm...Raja Davis walks to lead off the 5th for Detroit. One steal by the Tigers and they will top last year's steal total of 35.

9:19pm...But Carp strikes out, stranding two. Inning over. Tigers 1-0 end of 4.

9:17pm...Scherzer walks Napoli for the second time tonight. Runners on first and second, two down.

9:14pm...Big Papa clearly has Max's number as he drills a one hopper off the wall in right field for the Rex Sox first hit. Ortiz slipped while rounding first. He wasn't going to second just taking a look.

9:09pm...Officially the rain delay was 47 minutes.

9:07pm...The rain delay doesn't seem to have hurt Lester as he gets Castellanos to ground out and strikes out Worth to end the Tigers 4th. 1-0 Tigers Mid 4th.

9:02pm...Game will be resuming shortly. Both starter pitchers will return

8:46pm...Tarp is coming off the field. Game will attempted to be restarted at 9:05pm

8:22pm...Looking at the future forecast, this rain delay might be lengthy

8:16pm...Tarp is coming out. Rain is coming down way too hard. Current situation: Top 4, 1 out, no one on. Hopefully this delay doesn't last long.

8:11pm...Max strikes out the side. Five K's today now puts him in sole possession of first place for strikeouts in the American League, one more than Tampa's David Price and Lester, who also entered the game with 66 strikeouts this season. Lester has four K's today.

8:09pm...Middlebrooks swings and misses, four k's for Max now.

8:08pm...Scherzer gets Jackie Bradly Jr. to strike out on three pitches for his third K of the day. One out.

8:06pm...As we start the bottom half of the 3rd, the rain has started again. Looks like it'll be off and on all night.

8:04pm...Lester gets Jackson to strike out after falling behind in the count 3-0, stranding the two runners. Lester up to 63 pitches. 1-0 Tigers Mid 3rd.

8:03pm...Rain has stopped for now...

8:01pm..Tigers with runners on the corners now after Hunter's single. Good job by Tigers' third base coach Dave Clark for holding V-Mart at third. He would have been nailed at home.

7:59pm...V-Mart with two out double down the line to left. He really had to hustle to second and had the throw been a little better, he might have been gunned out. Lester had set down six Tigers in a row before the double

7:57pm..Rain starting to fall at Fenway. Not hard enough to delay the game.

7:50pm...Scherzer gets Bogaerts swinging for his second strikout of the game and ending the second inning. Tigers up 1-0. Kinsler, Cabrera and Martinez due up for the Tigers.

7:48pm...Tigers turn double-play, 4-6-3 for those of you keep track at home. Two down for Boston.

7:47pm...Scherzer issues his first walk of the game to Mike Napoli to start the BoSox 2nd inning.

7:43pm..Tigers go 1-2-3 in the 2nd. Lester with only nine pitches this inning.

7:37pm...Ortiz hits one hard to the opposite field but right to Davis. Inning over, Tiger up 1-0

7:35pm...After a lengthy at bat, Scherzer gets Grady Sizemore to ground out to first. Two down, with Big Papa heading to the plate. Ortiz is 7-15 with three HRs career against Scherzer.

7:28pm...Max Schezer getting the call tonight for the Tigers. Last year's Cy Young Award winner is currently first in the AL in ERA (2.04), second in strikeouts (66), and fourth in both wins (5) and WHIP (1.02). However he is just 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his last three regular season starts at Fenway

7:27pm...Avila strikes out after Lester fell behind in the count 3-0. Lester threw 27 pitches in the first inning.

7:22pm...Jackson walks on four pitches to load the bases for Alex Avila, who is hitting 7th today, flip flopping with Castellanos who will hit 8th.

7:20pm..Torii swings at the first pitch he sees and hits it the left center field gap scoring Kinsler from first. Cabrera ends up at third but Tigers get on the board first, 1-0

7:19pm...Lester gets V-Mart looking for the second out. Torii Hunter up to bat, two on still, but now two down.

7:17pm...Cabby walks. Tigers with two on and one out. V-Mart up with his league leading .336 BA

7:15pm..Tigers get their first baserunner of the night on a line shot right off the glove of Red Sox 3rd baseman Will Middlebrooks.

7:13pm...Davis breaks his bat and grounds out to third for the first out

7:10pm...first pitch is a strike from Lester to Raja Davis and we are underway

7:09pm...forecast for tonight's game calls for possible rain showers, but for now just looks damp at Fenway. Rain is expecte the rest of the weekend.
