KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- With Kalamazoo Bike Week continuing, some might be thinking of getting in on the action by purchasing a bicycle of their own, but experts say you should be sure you know what you're buying beforehand. Renee Mitchell, with the Kalamazoo Bike Club, says that different types of bike riding call for different types of bikes.
"There are a lot of different bikes, more than there used to be," Mitchell told WKZO. "They all serve a different purpose. If someone is wanting to buy a bike, the best thing is to research all of the different bikes to find the one that meets your needs. Also, talk to people who do biking, as well."
Mitchell says that a mountain bike, for example, is better suited to dirt roads and rocky trails. Then there's the road bikes, which are intended for urban areas. They're lighter and good for commuting, but can be expensive. Mitchell says the most popular sort of bike is the hybrid, which focuses on comfort and ease of use. Whatever you're thinking of getting, the Kalamazoo Bike Club wouldn't mind offering some advice. To find them, go to KalamazooBikeClub.org.
