KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Trial has begun a Kalamazoo cold case murder.
44-year-old Grady Shields has always been a suspect in the October 1993 shooting death of Lois Cox, but they never had enough to take it to trial until now.
In opening arguments yesterday, the prosecutor claims they can put Shields in the area at the time of her disappearance, show he had a pattern of similar crimes and they have statements from the suspect made since that connect him to the killing.
The defense claims they have no physical evidence that Shields killed Cox, just circumstantial evidence that proves nothing.
The victim’s bullet riddled body was found 6- days after she disappeared in her car parked in Three Rivers.
Cox operated K.C. Industrial Sales, a business on the North Side of Kalamazoo.
The trial continues today.
