WEST MICHIGAN (WKZO) -- The American Lung Association is out with their annual “State of the Air” Report and residents in Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Allegan, Ingham, Ottawa and Berrien counties can breathe easier.
Those counties were among the best for short term particle pollution, thanks to tougher regulations on power plant and diesel engine emissions.
American Lung Association Spokesperson Janice Nolan says Ozone continues to be a problem that will get worse as global warming continues.
She says that nearly half the nation’s population lives in areas where the act of breathing can increase your risk of heart attacks and asthma.
It should be no surprise that the worst areas for clean air are the major metropolitan areas.
