KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Some Michigan Department of Transportation work at Stadium Drive and US 131 near Kalamazoo will be making rush hour commutes in the area a little more complicated starting later this week. The ramp from eastbound Stadium Drive on to northbound US 131 and the ramp from southbound 131 to eastbound Stadium will be closed starting Friday, and they'll remain closed through May 23rd.
The closures are all part of MDOT's 21 million dollar improvement project on Stadium from Eleventh Street to Seneca Lane in Kalamazoo. The agency says that, when it's all finished, the area will have more lanes, better highway access, and improved traffic signals. The work is partly being done to prepare for the opening of a new Costco and other businesses at Drake Road and Stadium.
Detours regarding the affected ramps this month will be posted.
