PORTAGE (WKZO) -- Portage Mayor Pro-tem Jim Pearson is planning to introduce four initiatives at tonight’s meeting that he says will improve the operation of Portage City Government.
The initiatives include soliciting suggestions from the public on how to improve services, directly speaking with city staff on ways to improve efficiency, and diving deeper into the budget on various expenditures.
The fourth is to make CIty Hall more accessible.
Some citizens are accusing Pearson and other council members of attempting to micro-manage city operations, and claim it’s the reason that both City Manager Maurice Evans and Deputy City Manager Brian Bowling have suddenly decided to retire simultaneously.
The Council will have to seek applications tonight to find someone to serve as interim manager.
. Evans retires a week from today and Bowling two days later.
