KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Some changes are coming to a couple of Kalamazoo area high school football programs. Kalamazoo Christian and Hackett Catholic Central High Schools have reached a deal to consolidate their football teams. Kalamazoo Christian Athletic Director Jerry Weesies says that the decision was made in response to a decline in the number of players both teams could recruit.
"The athletic director from Hackett and I have been discussion it since probably early last fall," Weesies told WKZO. "As we looked at our rosters if JVs and varsity football teams, we began a discussion about our options as our numbers are down in football."
The new consolidated team's name has yet to be decided. The team will start to play with the new season, and Kalamazoo Christian and Hackett Catholic Central will review their arrangement every two years from that point on.
